DIGITAL PLANETARIUM PROGRAM: DON QUIXOTE OF LA MANCHA.

Don Quixote of La Mancha for Digital Planetariums is an educational and immersive film in fulldome format, specially created for screening in digital planetariums and mobile planetariums. This children's version of the work by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, considered the most influential novel in Spanish literature, presents a selection of emblematic scenes adapted for young audiences.

The production creatively introduces real astronomical elements, such as the Cervantes System—a star and its exoplanets named Don Quixote, Sancho, Rocinante, and Dulcinea—thus combining classical literature with astronomical outreach, inspired by the initiative of the Pamplona Planetarium, the Spanish Astronomical Society, and the Instituto Cervantes.

Scenes from the novel included in the fulldome film:

  • Chapter I: Alonso Quijano, after reading too many chivalry books, loses his sanity and believes he is a knight-errant.
  • Chapter II: He arms himself with a makeshift shield and names his old horse Rocinante.
  • Chapter III: At an inn (which he mistakes for a castle), the innkeeper knights him.
  • Chapter IV: Merchants mock Dulcinea, and a farmer rescues Don Quixote and brings him home.
  • Chapter VI: He believes the wizard Frestón has enchanted his books.
  • Chapter VII: He convinces Sancho Panza to be his squire, promising him an island.
  • Chapter VIII: He attacks windmills, mistaking them for giants.
  • Chapter XXIII: He retreats to Sierra Morena as a hermit (featuring a starry night to introduce the Cervantes System).
  • Chapter XXVI: He writes a love letter to Dulcinea and sends Sancho to deliver it.
  • Chapter XXVII: The priest and the barber trick Sancho to bring Don Quixote back.
  • Chapter III (Part 2): A bachelor tells Don Quixote that his adventures are now published in books.
  • Chapter VIII (Part 2): He discovers that Dulcinea is a humble farm girl.
  • Chapter XVII (Part 2): He bravely faces caged lions.
  • Chapter LXIV (Part 2): He is defeated by the Knight of the White Moon in Barcelona.
  • Chapter LXXIV (Part 2): He falls ill, renounces chivalry, and dies in his bed.

Perfect for planetariums, museums, and cultural centers, Don Quixote of La Mancha for Digital Planetariums is a unique fulldome adaptation of Cervantes' masterpiece, specially designed to bring his universe closer to young audiences. This educational and immersive production is ideal for screenings in digital and mobile planetariums, educational institutions with cultural programming, science and literature museums, astronomy or children's literature festivals, and events organized by local governments and public institutions.
